Job Connection LLC works closely with the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services through vocational rehabilitation programs to remove barriers to success at work for Oklahomans with disabilities. Our approach expands opportunities for employment and economic self-sufficiency.These vocational rehabilitation programs introduce or reinstate people with disabilities into the work force, creating taxpayers and reducing dependence on disability benefits and social assistance.

What is a Job Coach?

Coaches are not just for sports teams! Coaches help individuals see their talents, develop goals, and see areas where they can improve. Job Coaches, or “Employment Consultants,” are individuals who specialize in assisting individuals with disabilities to learn and accurately carry out job duties. Job coaches provide one-on-one training tailored to the needs of the employee. First, they do a job analysis to identify the job duties, followed by developing a specific plan as to how they can best train the employee to work more on his/her own until completely self-sufficient and able to perform job duties accurately and effectively without assistance.

What Do They Do?

When searching for a job, there is a lot to consider: résumésdress, appearance, answers to interview questionsnetworking, and personal goals. With all this, there is also the emotional stress. A job coach can help you evaluate yourself with a clear perspective, assess your options in a job search, and help you remember what you’ve accomplished.

At Job Connections, our Employment Training Specialists will coach with you through job search techniques, brainstorm to help you develop new ideas, coach you through practice sessions, develop job search resources such as resumes, give support in interviews, follow up on applications, and give you the preparation necessary for you to be a success in your new work place.

Is This Right For Me?

We work with people with all kinds of abilities to find the right approach for them.

We have three different levels and your career counselor at Department of Rehabilitation will help you pick the right approach for you.

Employment Retention

Job candidates in the employment retention category usually have worked before and need limited support on the job. We start the process with personality assessments, overview of work history, and personal information for a better overview of what kind of employment is best for you.

Supportive Employment

Supportive employment job candidates usually don’t have a work history and need more support in finding jobs and on the job training. Our process starts with a job history and personal information overview. In addition, we take these job candidates to volunteer at two work sites to assess their skills and find areas where they’ll need more support.

Customized Employment

Customized employment is a special category that provides several opportunities for job candidates to experience job shadowing in different work settings and activities.

We can provide as much or as little support as needed. If you want to work, then this program is right for you. Check out our tips for a successful job search below.

Tips for Successful Job Placement

Actively Participate

We encourage all our job candidates to take an active approach in their own job search. Actively participating in your own job search is the first step to a successful placement.

Take the Time to Reflect

The answers to our questions take time, but ultimately for a long term success, you will want to know the answer:

  • What are my most important strengths?
  • What are the most important skills I've developed?
  • What other skills do I want to develop, or what experiences do I want?

Maintain Contact

Always maintain contact with your Employment Consultant. As your Employment Consultant is reaching out to potential employers or filling out applications, it's essential to maintain contact if they have any questions or need to schedule an appointment to meet with potential employers.

Know Your "Why"

"Why" do you want a job? Understanding your motivation to work will help when you come against obstacles. These obstacles can come even before you start working, but can also come when there are tough days on the job. Remembering the why can help you stay the course and not give up.
